mail server update at 4:15pm on Wednesday March 8, 2017

The departmental mail server will have software updates applied on Wednesday afternoon, March 8, 2017 which will require rebooting (the server will be unavailable starting at 4:15pm). Since some updates will be applied while the mail server is still up there may be some temporary issues with some software. We hope that any such issues will be minor and by doing most of the upgrading before bringing the system down the shorter downtime will be worth the potential minor problems. Please restart any programs if you observe problems during the upgrades (and please let us know at requests@math.toronto.edu, so we can investigate). We expect the mail server to be back up by 5:00pm.

We will also be moving some network switches to a UPS (in order to handle minor power outages) so some departmental servers (such as the mail server) will temporarily not be reachable during this update time.

lw2 printer can now print in duplex again

After much back-and-forth with Xerox we were finally shipped the correct replacement part this morning and now the lw2 printer can print in duplex once again.

Update: lw2 printer only prints one-sided (no duplex)

As of this afternoon (on Friday) we were told that the part will arrive on Monday.

lw2 printer only prints one-sided (no duplex)

The Exit Unit on the lw2 printer has broken and that printer can only do one-sided printing (no duplex/two-sided printing).  A replacement for this part was supposed to have arrived this morning, but after calling about this we were told that they were unable to ship it yesterday and that it should arrive tomorrow (Friday).
